Can Firefox & Parakey scare 37signals?..I doubt it.
We are big fans of Basecamp and the project collaboration utopia they’ve created. I was at the Getting Real Workshop a few weeks ago, and nothing seems to shake these guys. They have a ton of reasons to be super-confident, but c’mon, something has to make them say (at least), “Ok, here’s some competition.” However, seeing these guys in person, I doubt anything can shake them.
Blake Ross and Joe Hewitt (Firefox creators) entering my space may unnerve me, just a little. I don’t mean to imply that either of these companies are out to get one another, or that Parakey is a Basecamp competitor. In fact, I’m sure neither is worried about the other, but here’s what Parakey states on its homepage:
Computers are frustrating. Creating documents, finding files, sharing information— why do everyday things still seem so tedious and counterintuitive?
So the only reason I see some competition with Basecamp is because we use it to create documents, find files and share information online. Basecamp changed the way we do business forever. Firefox changed the way we browse the Internet forever. Now, maybe the founder of Firefox is poised to change the way we do business forever, again.
Niall Kennedy talks more about it here.
