Doing > Talking
I had a conversation with John Barnette last night about being out here in San Francisco, and how restorative the last couple weeks have been. I was sharing that getting stuff done on our Voodoo Ventures products and Flatstack has felt great. The last few months have been a lot of meetings and mentorship and that always impacts getting things done.
“Opinions aren’t output” John said.
Stress comes from not getting shit done, and builds up when you’re feeling unproductive. No one feels great after a day full of meetings and just talking about stuff.
It is a core value at Flatstack — “Doing > Talking”
And its been something that has been reinforced for me many times, from 37 Signals “meetings are toxic” to founders who get caught up with “mentor whiplash” and are overfocus on soliciting opinions about what they should do instead of building something, testing their assumptions and iterating.
It was a good reminder to me to stop jawing and start getting work done. Thanks John. I’m feeling better already.
