‘Myspace Tom’ stands up for Baton Rouge band
Score one for the little guy. Bones, a garage band from Baton Rouge, recently had their myspace page stolen from them by (wait for it) myspace. Apparently, in dealings with the Fox show, Bones, myspace made the executive decision to take the /bones URL away from the little band in Baton Rouge, and give it to the big, fat TV show in Hollywood.
It seems that the Myspace President, Tom Anderson, got wind of this and immediately gave it back to the band. Here’s what he had to say:
“I heard about what happened with your URL. I gave it back to ya,” said MySpace President Tom Anderson in a statement e-mailed to Bones. “Sorry about that! As we grow in size, sometimes people make decisions I don’t know about. This was obviously the wrong decision. The Bones URL is yours once again.” (Source: www.daily-report.com)
It feels so good to hear a story where no matter how massive myspace becomes, it won’t forget its roots or the people that got it there. Let’s hear it for garage bands! Heck, let’s hear it for Tom, the creator of a cultural phenomenon that still has the nerve to call the Man out.
P.S. Fox taking the URL (whether they knew it or not) conjures images of literally stealing candy from a baby, and stealing candy of any sort makes me mad.
