On our relationships post- COVID-19
I believe we are in a period of great transformation. Things will go back towards normal, but they will not go back to normal.
I believe we are in a period of great transformation. Things will go back towards normal, but they will not go back to normal.
A trauma we are all experiencing right now is in our human interaction.
Our normal lives are halted & we are at home. (And if so, grateful we are not hospitalized)
We are seeing fewer people physically, no high-fives or hugs.
Zoom is our water cooler & cocktail hour.
Imagine we bucket our human relationships into 3 categories:
Family — our friends & loves ones
Neighbors — our community
Tribe — our pursuit (colleagues, network, recreation)
Eventually, this will be over, but we will be changed. How will things be different?
We will travel less. We will value our local community more.
We all just increased our technical savvy and capacity to connect & work online. Resulting in travel being less frequent and more special. Greater emphasis on our local communities & the common good of our home.
And we will find our tribe increasingly online. Work, entertainment, education, passions & pursuits will continue to migrate online.
Those tribes that are connected by common purpose will be communities connected digitally using the tools we learn during this time.
And when we have less friction to accomplish those common purposes, we have more time to spend on family and neighbors — whom we can’t wait to hug when this is all over.
I would love to hear your reactions.
